Should the parking lot in Jerusalem be open on Shabbat?

Jerusalem has been going through another one of its conflicts between the large ultra Orthodox community and the rest of the Jewish population. Thus time it has been around the issue of a parking lot on Shabbat. This is the background. In recent years there has been a real revival o… Continue

hi elan
i finally got on. I am not sure what the problem was but it seems to be solved.I am very much looking forward to this trip and the work that we will do. I am immersed for the next week in the leadership institute for congregational educators where i am staff . I had the pleasure today of meeting Peter and Daniel and look forward to meeting everyone else.

Hi Elan,
I'll get a photo to you asap. thanks for your invitation to send one and tell a bit about my history re israel. i didn't realize these comments to me were written on my wall on this site! i guess i was a bit confused between this one and the one gabrielle set up, where there is a picture i uploaded.

My time of frequent visits to israel was in the 70's when I was a participant on USY Israel Pilgrimage, then a madricha on that program and then i spent 1976-77 studying at Machon Pardes and living in Maalot Dafna. Twenty two years then elapsed until i returned with the Wexner program for a week in 1999. So, 10 years later it's time for a return visit! Being there with FHAO/BH feels like an amazing opportunity to learn about and experience today's Israel and my connection with it in very meaningful ways.

Hi Elan, thank you for posting on my wall! I wish I could join everyone in Israel! Luckily, I have been to Israel; my first trip was when I was seven years old on a family, reform-movement lead tour. Our tour guide, Iddo Katz, was fabulous and I believe it was the stories he told on that trip that sparked my passion for history.
My second trip was during my junior year of college. I went to study abroad with the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, where one third of the students are Arabs (Palestinians, Jordanians), one third are Israeli, and one third are foreigners. The goal of this program is to use the environmental to create transborder cooperation and change. This experiment
in coexistant set on the Zionist landscape of Kibbutz Ketura was also a transformative experience for me.

As a native Israeli, what is your view on American Jews that come and study in Israel?

I don't know whether you realize it, but Gabrielle from FHAO Brookline office had previously sent out invitations and there is an entire section of Ning that has almost all of the participants in it.

What is your role in the summer program? I am eager to hear more details about the program. I teach Jewish history at Maimonides School in Brookline, MA and I teach adult Jewish education [primarily rabbinic and medieval periods] to adults in the Meah program of Hebrew College.
